UAE–Europe: A Major Global Trade Corridor

The European Union is one of the UAE's largest trading partners, with bilateral trade exceeding €75 billion annually. Rotterdam (Netherlands) is the largest port in Europe and the primary entry point for UAE sea freight, while Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Paris Charles de Gaulle are major air cargo hubs.

Dazro manages UAE-to-Europe shipments across all transport modes. We file EU import customs declarations (IDA/Single Administrative Document), handle EU import VAT (deferred where possible), and deliver door-to-door across all EU and non-EU European countries including Switzerland, Norway, and UK.

Jebel Ali to Rotterdam via direct service: 18–22 days. Via Suez Canal and Mediterranean transshipment hub: 20–26 days. LCL shipments add 3–7 days for consolidation at origin.
The EU-UAE Free Trade Agreement is under negotiation (2024). Currently, UAE-origin goods are subject to standard EU MFN (Most Favoured Nation) tariff rates. EUR.1 certificates are issued for goods with sufficient UAE origin content.
EU import VAT (typically 19–25% depending on country) is payable at the port of entry. For EU-VAT-registered importers, import VAT is often deferrable or reclaimable on the VAT return. Dazro advises on the most tax-efficient import routing.
Yes — Switzerland, Norway, Iceland (with EEA customs rules), and Western Balkans (Bosnia, Serbia, Albania, etc.) all covered. Each has specific customs requirements that Dazro manages.
Trade Insights

Europe & UAE — Trade Corridor

UAE–EU Trade Overview

Annual trade between the UAE and the EU exceeds €75 billion. The EU is one of the UAE's top three trading partners globally. Key UAE exports to EU: petroleum products, aluminium, precious metals, and manufactured goods. Key EU exports to UAE: machinery, vehicles, pharmaceuticals, and luxury goods.

A UAE-EU Free Trade Agreement has been under negotiation since 2023. Once concluded, it is expected to eliminate most import duties on goods traded between the two regions — significantly benefiting UAE manufacturers and re-exporters.

European Ports for UAE Cargo

Rotterdam (Netherlands) is Europe's largest port by volume, handling ~440 million tonnes annually. It is the primary destination for Jebel Ali sea freight to Western, Central, and Northern Europe. Antwerp (Belgium) is the second-largest European port and serves the Benelux and Germany hinterland.

Hamburg and Bremerhaven serve Northern Germany and Scandinavia. Genoa and Trieste serve Italy and Central/Eastern Europe. Piraeus (Greece) — part-owned by COSCO — is an increasingly important entry point for UAE cargo transiting to Eastern and Central Europe.

EU Import Customs Process

EU customs uses the Single Administrative Document (SAD) / Customs Declaration (CD) system. All goods entering the EU from UAE require an import declaration with TARIC commodity code, customs value, origin, and applicable duty rate. High-value shipments (above €150) require full customs entry.

The EU's Import Control System 2 (ICS2) requires advance cargo information filing before departure for air freight (Entry Summary Declaration). Sea freight ICS2 requirements are being phased in through 2025–2026. Dazro ensures pre-arrival filing compliance.

EU Product Regulations for UAE Exports

Many products exported from UAE to EU must comply with EU technical regulations. Electronics require CE marking. Toys require EN 71 compliance. Food products must comply with EU food safety regulations and may require health certificates.

The EU's REACH regulation covers chemicals and requires registration of chemical substances. RoHS compliance is required for electrical and electronic equipment. Dazro provides compliance guidance and connects clients with EU-accredited testing laboratories when required.
